Founded in 1995, the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is a worldwide network of sustainable communities and initiatives. GEN envisions a world of empowered citizens and communities, designing and implementing their own pathways to a sustainable future. It is building bridges of hope and international solidarity through its ecovillage project directory, solution library, educational and research work and, since 2000, its consultative status at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) commission.
